Tony Warren Workshop

We had the absolute pleasure of Tony Warren joining us for a weekend (25th/26th April)  taking us through the creation of some stunning flowers.  It was a full on weekend with lots of techniques covered in the creation of some stunning flowers.

Tony is a highly respected expert in Sugarcraft and is particularly known for creating realistic sugar flowers, he is also a published author and co-author of several Sugarcraft books, including Garden Flowers in Sugar and Sugar Roses for Cakes.

It was inspiring to see Tony at work first hand and we have already extended an invite to return to us next year.

Below are just some of the snapshots of the weekend.  This is Cork Sugarcraft at its best and not a rose in sight.

St Patricks Day Parade

What a great afternoon we had playing just a small part in this year’s Cork City St Patricks Day Parade. Our faces ached from smiling and our hands from waving but we would happily do it all over agin.

With over 3000 entries our small crew turned into magical, mystical sugar crafters creating magic in edible form, dressed in green capes with flower headpieces carrying beautiful handmade flowers and a gift for the Mayor and Mayoress.

In an ideal world the flowers in our headdresses would have been our own handmade ones but we just couldn’t risk the weather spoiling them.  We did however make sure the Mayor and Mayoress were gifted a small posy. C103 will also have one dropped in to them.

The vibe from the crowd was lovely with lots of shouts of ‘We love cake’ followed by waves and cheers.

Thank you to the team behind us who made the flowers and for the team that came on the day who all pushed themselves out of their comfort zones to promote our Association.

Next year…… oh yes, we will have a cake on wheels.  Watch this space.

Live on Air at C103

We were delighted to have the opportunity to visit the C103 Studio’s on March 11th to meet Patricia and promote Cork Sugarcraft and our entry into this years St Patricks Day Parade.

The nerves were running high but Patricia was lovely and was delighted with the St Patricks Day hat (made from sugarpaste) which was given to her.  Daffodils are her favourite which was pure luck.

Along with a St Patrick’s Day hat, cupcakes were also handed over and to give Patricia an idea of what Sugarcraft can be a Competition piece from the 2025 Show was also brought in.

The feedback from the interview has been incredible and our reel has reached an audience of 35k which is staggering.

Lets hope it goes someway to highlighting our Association and making us a little more visible in today’s on-line world.

Thank you @C103

Introduction to Sugarcraft

The last night of our Introduction to Sugarcraft course concentrated on the rag doll character, working with modelling paste to create the details with some lovely results.

The object of the course was to introduce the art of Sugarcraft which is exactly what we achieved, from learning how to ice a cake and cake board, construct a two-tier correctly and finish with using modelling paste to create a main character, gaining lots of invaluable knowledge and tips along with way.

The feedback has been fab and more is definitely to come.  Thank you to the lovely group of ladies who made this course such a pleasure to give and a huge thank you to our host Emma @gingerbreadhoue.ie for allowing us the space to be creative.

Working with TY students

We had the absolute pleasure of working with some of the TY Students at Skibbereen Community School this week helping them decorate their Christmas pudding cakes.

Thank you to the staff and pupils who made us feel so welcome.

Cork on a Fork Festival

We were delighted to be involved with the Cork on a Fork Festival this year where we held an interactive workshop to make a ‘Love Cork’ bear in St Peter’s Church, North Main Street.

There was lots of fun and laughter and all types of bears being made.  Participants were able to take their bears home and were invited to sign our ‘Love Cork’ cake with edible pens.

A lovely morning was had by all and the feedback was great.

Thank you to all who came along.

Cupcake workshop in aid of charity Heading Text Here

Two of our CSA members participated in the Carrig na Bhfear Community Council Funday on Sunday 10th August 2025, hosting a stand for cupcake decorating with a range of buttercream icing and sprinkles.

Local children and parents had fun trying their hand at piping buttercream and creativity with placing sprinkles on top of their mountains of buttercream.

Everyone had an opportunity to enter a small draw for a prize of sprinkles and cookie cutters donated from Gingerbread House in Midleton.

Collaborations by Miriam Pearson

(Author – Miriam Pearson).

Following on from my feature at the 2023 show with The Beast, I wanted to include as many as I could to create a feature for the 2025 show.

A group of over 30 of us got together for the 3 collaborations at the show this year. From Holland, Uk, France, Spain and Ireland to name a few.

I wanted to put together 3 collaborations, An Afternoon Tea, to celebrate 30 years of Cork Sugarcraft, A Friendship bench for us to gather and take pictures with our cake family, and a huge birthday cake to celebrate the milestone in Cork Sugarcraft.

The Afternoon Tea, consisited of every edible, from candles, menus, cups and saucers, cutlery, name plaque with each paste presidents name on, a commemeration plaque to Eddie Spence MBE who played a vital role in the early days of the Association.

Our friendship bench was surrounded by all sorts of flowers, foliage and frames, made by the CSA collaboration members.

The cake was a 9 tier Princess, decorated with all things edible that it take to make a cake, from rolling pins, cupcakes, piping bags and candles, all created by myself and the members of the CSA and collaboration.

A joy to see everyone working together and a great team of cake artists.

Past Presidents

Friendship Bench

Our friendship bench was surrounded by all sorts of flowers, foliage and frames, made by the CSA collaboration members and made for us to gather and take pictures with our cake family.

It was the perfect spot to take a photograph of past Presidents.

2027 will see us creating a large walk in piece.  All to be revealed……
